Sorry, this post is boring, but it may help someone else out there who is trying to connect their Macbook Pro, c. 2010, to an LG Flatron W2252TQ monitor, or something similar.
I spent an hour researching online and found nothing to solve the riddle (this otherwise wonderfully helpful post doesn't work for our computer), and so this answer comes from Yes Computers of Northampton, MA. (Thank you!)
All you need is a DVI-D Dual Link Digital Flat Panel Cable M-M (here's the one we bought) and a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (we bought this one.)
